Volunteers play a vital role in any NGO but the functioning of Aks is impossible without its volunteers. We need volunteers for all the services we provide but most importantly for handling crisis lines and advocacy.
We encourage individuals who are interested in volunteering to email our coordinator at firstname.lastname@example.org
Volunteers are needed to help answer our 24-hour crisis lines. We encourage students from Psychology, Social work and Sociology backgrounds to apply but house makers and people interested in making a difference are welcome to apply. Volunteering for the crisis lines needs a 6 month commitment and we roster shifts on a 6 hour basis at your convenience. All volunteers interested must send their applications to the coordinator. An interview process and a bond of 6 months is signed before their induction for training. The Crisis intervention training is 16 hours long and is conducted over 2 days. A certificate is presented to all volunteers at the end of 6 months.
Crisis line specialists act as case workers and provide advocacy for their clients. However, we have an ever increasing need for young people to apply as advocates for our victims. As an advocate you are educated about the case and asked to accompany clients to the police station, Mahila Sahay Kaksha or even to a hospital (when necessary). The advocacy training is similar to the crisis intervention training. All you have to do is specify if you want to volunteer as a crisis line specialist or for advocacy or both.
Aks provides gender sensitization training, healthy vs unhealthy touch training and trainings on gender based violence at various schools and colleges across Pune. We run a “train the trainer” program for people who might be interested in becoming trainers for Aks. If you are good at public speaking and passionate about our cause, please send a mail to the coordinator.
We need young budding advocates and lawyers to help us educate our victims and also fight for their cause. If you need experience and want the satisfaction of working in the field of women rights we are the right choice for you.
Aks is always trying to spread the message about gender equality and gender based violence through posters and other media on social networking sites. If there are some creative people out there who want to make a difference tell them about Aks Foundation and request them to mail our coordinator. You and your friends can volunteer and speak up against violence in thought provoking ways. Flexible hours are a big plus in this sphere so do use your talent and join this team.
April is internationally recognized as the Month to Fight against sexual violence. We have an annual event called “Take Back the Night” every April and need dedicated volunteers for the same. Similar events will become more frequent through the year. If you are good at event management and planning and passionate about fighting against sexual abuse you can be a valuable member of the Aks team.
