Community Education

AKS FOUNDATION has a trained core group on gender related issues. These members of the Foundation go into the community to raise awareness and conduct talks on these subjects. Several socially aware institutes like Fergusson College, Pune, MIT Alandi and University of Pune have sought the assistance of Aks Foundation in the conduct of lectures on gender sensitization, and gender based violence. Several more batches of core group volunteers will be motivated and trained in the next academic year.

Gender Sensitization and ‘Safe Touch’ workshops have also been done in various schools across Pune. This is an ongoing annual activity

24 / 7 Crisis Help Lines

24/7crisis help lines have been set up with trained staff taking calls and providing support for victims of abuse and violence. We provide legal consultation, advocacy, financial assistance and emotional support to help victims become survivors.

Advocacy & Victim Assistance

We have trained young dynamic volunteers from colleges and universities to accompany victims to the police station, doctors and lawyers so that victims are provided physical and moral support and they do not feel alone in their fight against violence.

Corporate Education

We conduct various workshops for corporate employees on gender, gender based violence and preventing sexual harassment. We train not only regular employees but also contract employees like drivers and security guards on gender issues and sensitize them about gender based violence. Barkha Bajaj also acts as an expert on sexual harassment on various corporate boards and helped set up Sexual Harassment Committees.

Fund Raising & Awareness Events

Besides the annual fund raising event “Take Back the Night”, Aks conducts concerts, art exhibitions and other such activities to raise awareness about abuse and also garner support from the community.

Survivors Speak

Asha (27 years, Domestic Violence Survivor)

“  Aks ne mere saath ek volunteer ko mahila sahay kaksha bheja or vahan meri bahut madad kari. Woh madam ne mujhe bahut accha response diya or roz mere pe check karti thi. Mere pati ne mujhe itna tang kiya or daraya ke mere kaam se mujhe nikaal rahe the, tab mere kaam par Barkha madam ne baat kar ke mujhe vaapis kaam pe lagvaya. Aaj tak police ho ya lawyer Aks mere liya ladta hai. Mujhe Aks ne bahut takat di hai. Mein aur mere ma baap hamesha tension mein the lekin aks ki madad or takat se mein aaj apna divorce case lad rahi hoon”.

“Aks sent someone with me to the Mahila Sahay Kaksha and that lady gave me immense support. She checked on me everyday. My husband threatened and created a scene everywhere so my job was going to ask me to leave that is when Barkha Madam stepped in and talked at work to help me keep my job. Whethere it is the police station or the lawyers Aks has given me strength. My parents and I were always scared  but with the support of Aks I am now fighting my divorce case.”
