Zareen Babu

Zareen is a devoted Social Activist who has been involved in social work since the last almost three decades. In 1996 as a member of Pavement Club has worked extensively with slum dwellers and pavement children to gain an insight into their living conditions and educate their children.

From 1980 to 1996 she was in the United States where she, as a volunteer, trained with an NGO running a hotline for drug addicts/suicide alerts, worked at a women’s shelter for abused women and was a care giver for patients in an old age home

Back in India she started a ladies’ club, SPCL, in 2003, where educated women volunteered for community work with old age homes and worked for the underprivileged in the Society. She tirelessly worked to create awareness about hygiene and health, conducted medical camps and campaigns for cancer awareness and raised funds to assist under privileged cancer patients. As a member of Soroptimist International, Kodaikanal she was instrumental in running awareness projects connected with female empowerment and was extensively involved in fund raising for successful conduct of these projects.
