Rape culture is created- by you, me and everyone who stays silence when a girl is “eve teased”, harassed or abused. When women are objectified and dehumanised and we say nothing, do nothing.

Rape culture is created when rape is normalised and victims are blamed. Rape culture becomes pervasive when abuse is played down- even normalised. Rape culture is encouraged when we don’t hold men in power accountable but infact cover for them. We enable rape when we let men get away with it while we say boys will be boys!

Who created this culture? Patriarchy? Society? But who perpetuates patriarchy and who is society? It’s you and me.

We decided if women cover up rape won’t happen- but it does. We decided if women are modest – they will be safe but they are not. We said if women stay home or are not out at night- they will be safe but this is not our truth. We are not safe.

We are not safe in our homes
We are not safe at the workplace
We are not safe at parties
We are not safe in temples
We are not safe at festivals
We are not safe in buses and trains
We are not even safe when we protest!

Who can change this? You and me but only if we take accountability. Us and them separate us further. The WE is larger than you and me and we all have to take some responsibility. So before you say not all men- just think in your head but all women. – too many women!
